Dr Sally Butchers
Dr Sally Butchers completed her fellowship in General Surgery and followed this up with 2 years of work in Glasgow and Portsmouth.
Sally commenced her career as a Visiting Medical Officer with the North Coast Area Health Service (now Northern NSW Local Health District) in March 2008 and has enjoyed helping to care for patients from all over the north coast ever since.
Sally has been an advocate for rural surgery. She has been the chair for the Rural Section of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS). Currently she is a member of the NSW State Committee of RACS. She is also on the Board of General Surgery Australia. She advocates for patients, surgeons, trainees and medical students with the RACS and also with Governments, both State and Federal.
She is an instructor on the RACS run Early Management of Severe Trauma and MOSES courses and enjoys sharing her specialist knowledge with GPs, registrars and medical students in these important areas of medical care and training.
On a local level Sally is a member of the Medical Staff Council of Lismore Base Hospital and is involved with the local Breast Screening unit by participating in the surgeons’ roster for the assessment and results clinics. Sally participates regularly in the multidisciplinary team meetings which are all aimed at promoting better patient outcomes. She has given talks and supported Art Therapy programmes for Cancer Patients. This year Sally is Dancing for Cancer, raising money for the Cancer Council with all funds raised staying local.
Sally is dedicated to staying up to date and this year will attend meetings and present in Bangkok, Ballarat and Hobart.
Recognising that a balanced life is important in being able to give the best to your profession Sally likes to keep fit, plays hockey, nurtures her creative side through mosaics and loves a stroll through the many colourful local markets.
